What is Stainless Steel 316L Flanges?

The base composition elements of these flanges are chromium and nickel, but for added strength and durability, molybdenum is added in this alloy composition. The addition of molybdenum in this alloy composition increases their resistance to corrosion under severe conditions, hence enabling this type of flange to work at high temperatures, up to 870°C, with remarkably good effect.

The molybdenum content in SS WERKSTOFF NR. 1.4404 Socket Weld Flanges gives them more corrosive resistance compared to the 304-grade stainless steel flanges. These are of welded socket design, wherein the pipe fits securely inside the socket, and these joint designs are available up to the size of 4-inch diameter.

There is also UNS S31603 Stainless Steel WNRF Flanges so weldable due to their design for low carbon, which minimizes carbide precipitation hence giving room for reduced intergranular corrosion at the welded joint. The Weld Neck Raised Face Flanges offer additional surface area for larger pipe connections while the ANSI B16.5 SS F316 Lap Joint Flange is available in a machined lap to simplify pipe joining.
