The nickel content of these bars also resists grain-boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone; this makes the alloy suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition. Applications above 1250°F are not recommended, however, due to possibility of phase formation at higher temperatures.

Manufacturing and Processing For forging, Hastelloy C22 should be heated between 1750°F to 2050°F followed by rapid cooling to prevent detrimental phase formation. Cold working is possible because the alloy has ductility; however, intermediate annealing in the temperature range of 2020°F to 2150°F followed by rapid quenching may be necessary to avoid work hardening.
